Give Dad the Perfect Gift on Any Budget

Celebrate Dad on his day without grimacing after you look at the price tag.

Mark your calendars, Dad’s Day is this Sunday, and Redwood City has plenty of options to get him that perfect gift without breaking the bank.

For $20 and under:

If your father enjoys wine, try making a trip down to K&L Wine Merchants or visit them online at http://www.klwines.com/.  Choose a type of wine and purchase price, then go for variety.  If your father likes Chardonnay, fill half a case with different brands of Chardonnay, all under $10.  That way, he gets to not only enjoy some wine, but can do it in a way that is closer to a wine tasting, where he can note the differences in wines of similar varietals and prices.

Head to the Farmers’ Market and select the freshest summer fruit. Stop by the nearest Safeway to pick up a tub of vanilla ice cream and make the best summer dessert he’s had in a while, without all the unnatural sugars.

For $20 to $50

Some dads may enjoy flowers, some may not. So why not get him something right in the middle? Get him a “Fulfilling Fortune Money Tree” from the Redwood City Florist on Woodside Road for just $49.99. Indigenous to the tropics of Central America, this special tree is known to bring good financial luck to all its caretakers. The braided money tree has five stalks braided into one tree that acts as a perfect indoor bonsai. Stones, humidifier tray, and care instructions included. Pick it up at the store to avoid shipping costs.

Help Dad improve his golf game whether he’s a beginner or ready to turn pro. At $45/hour, instructors at the Emerald Hills Golf Course will have your dad sinking those putts in fewer strokes. Contact the Golf Shop for details at 650-368-7820.

Donato Enoteca will serve a $48 four-course prix fixe menu available from 11:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in addition to a consolidated menu of a la carte selections. The prix fixe menu entrée will be Ravioli Di Pancia Di Maiale (house-made ravioli filled with Niman Ranch pork belly and Parmiggiano Reggiano, brown butter and sage). Your dad will be sure to leave the restaurant with a full belly.

Over $50

If purchasing a ticket to the Giants game is out of your price range, throw him a game-viewing party with his buddies.  This Take Me Out to the Ballgame Basket from Angels Redwood City Florist does all the work for you, providing peanuts, pistachios, Cracker Jacks, three different kinds of pretzels and good old-fashioned root beer. The regular is $57.95 or can be upgraded to Deluxe or Premium at $67.95 and $77.95.

Treat Dad (and Mom) to more than just your average bed & breakfast. Rates at the Hotel Sofitel are only $95 a night, $106 including taxes, gratuity not included. Your dad and mom can enjoy the luxuries of this high-class resort, then leisurely wake up to breakfast that is included with the room. At the Bay 223 restaurant, two guests can enjoy a full breakfast to energize them for the rest of their day.
